Root Canal Treatment

We use the latest minimally invasive practices when performing tooth-saving root canal treatment.

Introduction to Root Canal Treatment

  • Restorative procedure for rescuing infected teeth.
  • Performed by experienced restorative dentists who use the latest technologies.

Root Canal Treatment in a Nutshell

When a tooth’s living tissues (pulp) become infected with harmful bacteria, the tooth will begin to die. Root canal treatment can save the tooth and prevent the risk of the infection spreading to neighbouring teeth and from entering the bloodstream.

Time is vitally important when it comes to root canal treatment. The earlier your dentist can treat the infection, the greater the chances of saving the tooth and avoiding an extraction.

Your Patient Journey

Examination
Your dentist will make a thorough examination of your mouth and take dental X-rays to establish the extent of the decay.

Our fibre optic loupes allow us to identify compromised teeth and tooth roots, so we can act quickly to reduce the possibility of a dental extraction.

Removing the Infected Pulp
The areas surrounding the tooth is numbed with an anaesthetic. A rubber dam is used to carefully isolate the tooth, blocking bacteria and saliva from entering your mouth during the process.

The canals are meticulously cleaned and disinfected. A filling material is placed within the heart of the tooth and a restoration, such as a crown or filling is purpose-built to reintroduce aesthetic and function to the tooth.

We believe in continuously finding treatment methods that make life easier for our patients. Ultimately, making our patients happy is the foundation of what we do and why we do what we do.

We spend much of our spare time keeping up with the latest restorative techniques in the field of endodontics. This involves improving our clinical dexterity, so that we can always ensure 100% of the harmful bacteria present is removed from the heart of a struggling tooth.

Arguably, root canal treatment is one of the most important procedures we perform. It’s a procedure that can turn the tide of your tooth’s fate, eliminating the potential for a dental extraction.

Our oasis of high-quality dentistry is a serene environment that instantly helps you to feel relaxed and assured that you are future-proofing your teeth and smile.

FAQs

Does root canal treatment hurt?

Our dentists work to a high level of accuracy to ensure discomfort is virtually non-existent during your procedure.

They are skilled at administering discomfort-defying anaesthetic at precisely the correct sites around the tooth. Many patients are often surprised at how straightforward the process is.

What are the symptoms of an infected tooth

Whilst it’s true that dental infections can often be symptomless, there are some warning signs that include:

  • Lingering tooth sensitivity.
  • A serious dental fracture.
  • Swelling in your gums around a specific tooth.
  • Changes to your tooth shade.
  • A pus-filled ball bordering a tooth (this is a dental abscess).
  • Discomfort when you bite down.

Can root canal treatment be done again?

Thanks to new technologies, re-root canal treatment success rates have increased in recent years.

If you have had failed root canal treatment, our experienced restorative dentists will do their utmost to rectify this. We use magnification loupes with fibre optic lighting systems along with instruments that meticulously disinfect and repair root canals.

Our ultrasonic devices allow the clinical team to work accurately to remove any intra-canal obstructions that would otherwise obstruct the success of the procedure.

What causes root canal treatment to fail?

Common reasons why root canal treatment fails include:

  • Remaining infected tissue left unremoved.
  • Tooth fracture.
  • Gum infections.
  • Poor healing/immune response.
