Your dentist will examine your mouth to establish how impacted your wisdom teeth have become, and whether any antibiotics will be needed to curb any sign of infection.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction
A local anaesthetic is used to numb the soft tissue area around the tooth. We can also offer IV or oral sedation to patients who are anxious about the procedure.

Our dentists are keen users of the rubber dam during dental extractions. Our latex-free rubber dams are instrumental in reducing post-procedural infections.

Your dentist will carefully dislodge the tooth to set it free from the gum line.

Why are wisdom teeth problematic?

Wisdom teeth are so-named due to their tendency to come through much later than your other adult teeth. Once your wisdom teeth attempt to come through, it’s not uncommon for them to erupt at awkward angles or to become impacted.

This can cause pain and reoccurring infections that threaten your oral health. Wisdom teeth removal can be likened to having a tonsillectomy in the sense that once they are removed, you will no longer have repeated problems that cause you pain or threaten your oral health.

Wisdom tooth removal has become a routine dental procedure with very little recovery time, thanks to the huge strides in modern dental equipment.

Updated 12/03/25 - I also wanted to mention the Hygienist Cleo. She has cleaned my teeth twice now and was also very welcoming and made me feel at ease. Great, thorough clean both times and also gave me tips on cleaning. Highly recommend Lakewood Dental Practice!I had a really awful experience with my previous dentist a couple of years ago so I was very anxious for my first appointment at Lakewood. However, the staff were welcoming and Dr Neel Patel made me feel at ease and talked me through my treatment plan. I had the most pleasurable experience having a filling done, I was made to feel so comfortable by Nadia. I had headphones and a tv to take my mind of off what was being done. I cannot recommend enough. Also, My son has started the process of having Invisalign, and the work that has gone into this process in just one visit is amazing. He cannot wait to have them.Lastly, Cleo the hygienist has been so amazing and patient, I have never been to a hygienist before so my teeth were not as clean as I originally thought, but they certainly are now, after just one visit with her, I now have minimal bleeding from my gums. Where as before it was A LOT every-time I brushed.Thank you all of you, weirdly I look forward to coming back to the dentist.

What a amazing experience, I couldn't be happier!I was recommended to Dr. Nadia by my daughter who had a good experience. I had a broken front tooth which was causing me pain and stopping me from smiling. Nadia stopped the pain and rebuild my tooth with a crown and it looks better than it did before. She got this done for me all before Christmas. I have my confidence back and feel I can enjoy Christmas with my grandchildren. The reception team were lovely and the practice is so modern. Wow, This is how to do dentistry!Managed to get booked in with Neel the same day due to a cancellation. He was so professional, gentle and extremely informative. He took the time to explain every procedure, and I love that they use modern technology and equipment, allowing everything to be explained clearly on a screen.I've had a badly done filling for around 10 years that I have just put up with, but as Neel specialises in restorative dentistry, he fixed it perfectly, and now I don't have to carry around floss with me everywhere I go!I watched Netflix throughout the procedure, and before I knew it, it was over. Pain free and very relaxed.Also had a full scale and polish with the hygienist who again was so gentle and professional.You have a great team, and I'm so happy that I made the switch to this dentist that my wife has done the same.Thanks again guys, and will see you in 6 months!

I’ve always been so scared to go to the dentist all my life. I can happily say that has finally changed! Dr. Nadia was so kind, gentle and thorough at my check up and even did a filling for me and it was the best experience I’ve ever had at the dentist. I have been visiting this dental practice since I moved to London. Having been under a few others due to moving, this is by far the most professional and welcoming! I actually enjoy going for my check ups now!I've been seen by both Nadia and Neel for treatments and they both put my mind at rest as I am quite a nervous patient. I've had multiple dental check ups and treatments, including Botox in my jaw which Nadia suggested as I have an issue with clenching which caused me many headaches - now fully resolved!!! Having not been to the dentist for over a year I made my appointment. The appearance of my teeth have bothered me for years but the old dentist didn’t offer cosmetic dentistry. We went through all my options with my budget. I JUST FELL ASLEEP!Dr Neel Patel has been doing my dentistry for the past 6 months approximately; He is absolutely the best dentist I have ever had the pleasure to work with. The Lakewood Dental Surgery staff are very polite and welcoming. Dr Neel Patel was very informative about my teeth and gave great advice on how I can improve the care of them. The new dentist is the first dentist, in my nearly 60 years, that I feel comfortable seeing.Being on the autistic spectrum, I find having people close to me difficult.The dentist explained clearly everything he was going to do, and made me feel calm.The dental nurse, and receptionist were nice as well.I had 4 appointments, to get the work done, and have made a reminder to go back in 6 months.I would recommend this dental practice.
